Manchester Elementary School's girls and boys robotics teams performed well enough against the opposing 150 teams at the Elementary State Robotics Tournament to qualify both for the VEX World Robotics Championship in May! During both the skills section and the teamwork section of the tournament, the girls and boys robotics teams placed second and fourth, respectively, qualifying both for their divisional finals. The girls team scored well enough to advance to the championship finals against a team from Dyer, Indiana. With an impressive final score of 112 points, our girls team won the state championships! Congratulations to both of our robotics teams!

Sixth grade Manchester Elementary School students in Mrs. Helton's STEM class worked through another challenging construction assignment. The students were tasked with creating a pinball machine using only paper, straws, and marbles. By cutting, and taping the paper and parts of the straws together, students were able to create uniquely designed and functional pinball machines!

Third grade students in Ms. Warren's class at Manchester Elementary School read E.B. White's "Charlotte's Web." The fictional story centered around the relationship between a pig, Wilbur, and a spider, Charlotte, who communicated with Wilbur through messages woven into her spider web. After finishing the story, the students created their own spider web messages using white yarn, tooth picks, and black paper on top of a sheet of Styrofoam.

Manchester Elementary School students in Mrs. Cotton's fourth grade class are taking on a STEM challenge! Working in pairs, they are using straws, tape, a cup, popsicle sticks, and yarn to construct a bucket tower. The students are applying their engineering and creativity skills as they work together to make a stable structure.

Manchester Elementary School students in Ms. Badescu's second grade class learned how to measure a variety of distances between inches and yards. The students also learned how to convert between different units of measurement including twelve inches making one foot and three feet making one yard. Armed with this knowledge, students can better quantify the world around them.
